Star Trek

J.J. Abrams took it upon himself to bring the original Star Trek crew back to the big screen. Not being to familiar with the original franchise I was curious if this movie would pull me in and introduce the characters to me in a way that would be satisfactory to a non-Trekkie.

From the get-go there are a few clichés, but one can forgive this as the story is well put together and you’re taken on a fun ride. It servers up a good story, with humour and intrigue. Abrams manages to introduce us to the main players in a good way, but I couldn’t help feeling it wasn’t enough. We follow Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) from childhood, and the rest of the crew are introduces as the story progresses. Personally I wanted to know a little more about the characters, but there simply wasn’t enough time to do this and keep the story moving.

Troy

It was an ok movie, but I didn't get emotionally involved in what happened, there was one scene toward the end where I started caring a little, but that was to little to late.

The battle scenes have been compared with LOTR, saying they're good, but doesn't come near to LOTR. This is true, they're good, but can't compare to LOTR.

The acting was good, Orlando wasn't as sucky as expected.
Brad Pitt was good, but it was hard to let go of the fact that he's Brad Pitt. In my eyes he's better suited to play contemporary roles, not historic ones.
Eric Bana did good, he's a good actor, and is still at that stage where he gives it his all, without going over the top.
Sean Bean, as good as ever.
Brian Cox, the man I love to hate. Well, didn't really care until a point toward the end, but it's true; he really is a good psycho.
Of the main three females in this movie, it was Saffron Burrows that I liked the most.
It was nice to see Tyler Mane again, even though he didn't have much screen time.
Now the old squad, I  don't really have a clue. I don't feel like writing anymore, they were good.

I'll have to admit that I agree with some of the reviews I've read. This is a good movie, with a lot of really good shoots and scenes, but it lacks the emotion. The point where I started caring was just because it hit a nerve, if that were not the case I doubt I would have gotten much out of it.

What gets me is that the guy who write the screenplay grew up with this story, and still they managed to turn in into a Hollywood thing.

The Hulk (2003)

It wasn't as crappy as I had expected, but it wasn't good either. I liked the casting and characthers. This is the first movie I've seen with Jennifer Connelly where I haven't had flashbacks to "Requiem for a dream".
I pretty much could tell from the start that this would be a long movie. My biggest complaints are that Ang Lee is trying waaay to hard to be artistic with this movie. The cartoon boxes work in a couple of scenes, but he overdid it. We did not need to see a bloody helicopter from 5 different angles at the same time.
This movie has way to much talking and very little action, now I'm not saying that this is a bad thing, but so much of the talk is unnecessary... it just got so damn boring in the long run. Also the rivalry between Talbot and Bruce made no sense to me, yes, they were both a little hung up on the same girl, and had different sides on the whole who should control the lab thing but that isn't enough for the hate we see on screen.
The scene where Bruce first turns into the Hulk was very silly, and I have to admit I didn't completely get what the trigger was.
Finally, the Hulk cgi is NOT as good as the people behind this movie claim, he looks like one of Shrek's buddies. Comparing this to Gollum is a F*** insult to Weta, Andy Serkis and Peter Jackson.
Now to the stuff I actually liked in this movie: You can to some extent relate to the characther, but I guess that might not be obvious to everybody, but just to make it clear I'm focusing on the human element here. Now, Bruce Banner is a sulky characther, but you understand why he's sad and he makes an effort not to be too much of a downer, he's serious without being whiny.
