Numb3rs

Had to see what all the fuss was about. It’s been raved about all over my flist. I’ve seen the first six episodes, and I’m not quite won over yet. I like Charlie and Alan Eppes as characters, but that’s about it. They keep pushing how math will make it easier to solve crime, yet I keep thinking that the way it’s put forth it’s way to easy. It might help in some areas, but it keeps ending up being the key and that element is bugging me. I’ll keep watching as I do enjoy crime shows, but it’s not one of those shows I’ll have to watch.

Shark

This show is great, finally a serious lawyer show. James Woods is great in this role, cocky, ruthless and funny.
I’ve only seen a few episodes, and there have been a few interesting things introduced, am really curious to see how this series will progress.
It’s been compared to House M.D. Not the first thing I thought about, but I can kind of see why someone would say that. I will definitely keep watching this.

Vanished

Someone I knew was really looking forward to this show, I never heard anything beyond that, but figured I’d check it out when it started airing over here.

I’m not overly impressed by it, I keep feeling like they’re building up some huge conspiracy and the reveal will be disappointing no matter what they do. Also I don’t really care about any of the characters, not enough anyway.
I’ve seen 8 episodes so far, and since there are only 5 left I’ll probably watch those as well, had this been a long running show I would have quit watching ages ago.

Dexter: Truth Be Told (#1.11) & Dexter: Born Free (#1.12)

Wow, a great way to end the first season of a wonderful show. Rolling in the threads of the major storyline, while leaving a few out there for the next season.

I loved the way it wrapped up; the big reveal was something I kind of suspected earlier, so it didn’t come as a very big surprise.
I keep wondering how next season will turn out, with regards to the things that are still in the air.
I really hope they hurry up and give us season 2 soon!

Lost, season 3

I’ve only seen 2 episodes so far, but it’s failing to impress me. The series seemed to be picking up the pace a bit at the end of last season, so I was hoping they’d finally get back on track. The insistent focus on Jack is driving me a little nuts, he is rather a boring character, and they have many others to choose from. I just find it kind of weird that a character that was supposed to be killed off in the first episode is getting this much focus.

Story wise I feel that the writers really have no idea where they’re going with this. They need to go learn something from Joss Whedon and Eric Kripke about how to plan out a story arch for a TV series. Hopefully they’ll start tying up loose ends soon and focus on finishing this show.
They have till Nathan Fillion’s cameo to suck me back in.

Ugly Betty

I had to see what all the fuss was about. I’ve seen four episodes so far, and it’s a fun show, don’t know if I’ll be calling it great anytime soon, but it’s definitely enjoyable. Personally I don’t really think the show needs the whole conspiracy storyline, as following Betty in her daily trials is entertainment enough for me.
I’ll be continuing watching, as it provides some lighter fare amongst the other shows I follow.

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen

I have no idea what possessed me to watch this film in the first place, and what got me to watch it all the way through I will never know. It’s downright painful to watch, and the ending you could pretty much predict from the first minute of the film.

The Scream trilogy

Most of you have probably seen these by now… but I had to.

I still very much enjoy these films. The first one was hugely responsible for getting me into the horror genre, which is why I’ll probably always love it.
The sequels do sadly suffer from what befalls most sequels, a drop in quality. They’re still a fun ride though.

Punch-Drunk Love

This movie definitely goes on my weird-shelf, but on the higher end as I actually enjoyed it.
At first I had no idea what to make of the story, as it’s not entirely clear where the movie’s going. I’ll have to admit it was kind of bizarre watching Adam Sandler in a role like this, but I liked it, and I really hope he’ll do more stuff like this, more serious films.
All in all an enjoyable film, but it helps if you’re not expecting anything particular.

The Prestige

 

There was a level of anticipation tied to this movie. When I first heard about it I misunderstood and thought it would be a fantasy movie about wizards. I thought that might be cool and felt some anticipation. When I realized the film would be about magicians having a rivalry I kind of lost interest, not sure how that could be very exiting. When the trailer finally hit the web I was turned around again and was really exited. It had been a very long time since trailer had had such and effect on me, making the level of anticipation rise.
I left it after that, thinking that I didn't want to know anything more and I would try to put the trailer out of my mind, because I suspected it was rather spoilery.

So after waiting a long time for this film, I finally got to see it yesterday. The opening scene of the film kind of dissapointed me, but that was just due to expectations, it was rectified in my mind as the story progressed and I understood more about how the story was built up. It took me a little while to get into the non-linear way the story was being told. As the story unfolded I got sucked in to it, and really enjoying myself. Exposing layer after layer, keeping the suspense up, was all very well done.
Even though I figured out pretty much every big turn before it happened, and the big twist for the end of the movie was something I picked up on very early, I still managed to enjoy myself when they were revealed. For one it made me feel smart since by the reviews I've read very few others picked up on these things ahead of time, but it was also because having the suspicion was part of the fun of the film. Trying to figure out what would happen next, being part of the mystery just made me enjoy myself that much more.
It's one of those stories of war where you can't help but think if one of them would just have let it be this wouldn't have kept getting worse, and growing the way it did. It did make for a great film, and actually a good comment on humans and the need for vengance.
